In India, the scholarships, awards, prize distribution and promotion system is too far from perfect. The Sabhas (music and dance events organizers) offer the young dancers "opportunities" to perform under their banners and "be promoted": the dancer pays considerable amounts of money ("donations") to the Sabha, and then performs in front of 20-100 spectators, most of whom are the dancer's relatives, friends, classmates, parents' colleagues, etc., and the rest are a handful of elderly local citizens with their little grandchildren. This is called "promotion". While the arangetram of an 11-year-old dancer of SriDevi Nrithyalaya in Krishna Gana Sabha (Chennai) was attended by about 250 people, this dancer's arangetram video received over 250 000 views on the Internet from October 30, 2006 till 15 June, 2008 in the experiment conducted by the ACE. Most of these viewers are from outside of India, and are specifically searching for Bharatanatyam video. Another pilot project conducted by the ACE for a virtually unknown 14-year-old dancer from Chennai, whose web site has been receiving 300 visits per day, has demonstrated that even young talents can receive a worldwide renown and appreciation, as well as find numerous supporters, fans and sponsors, and secure a stable and long-term source of income.
